Press releaseNATIONAL SAVINGS AND INVESTMENTS AND POST OFFICE LTD SIGN NEW LONG TERM RETAIL AND DISTRIBUTION CONTRACT 28 October 2004The contract, signed on 14 October but backdated to 1 April, continues the role of Post Office® as a retail and distribution channel for NS&I’s range of savings and investments. These include Premium Bonds, tax-free Savings Certificates and the Easy Access Savings Account. The contract means customers can continue to save and invest with NS&I via their local Post Office® branch where they can also pick up information on any of NS&I’s products and services. John Prout, Sales Director at National Savings and Investments, said: “We have enjoyed a long and successful relationship with the Post Office® and I am extremely pleased that this special arrangement will continue long into the future. “The Post Office® is a major retail and distribution channel for us and works perfectly alongside other sales channels, such as the telephone, internet and post.” Graham Halliday, Banking and Financial Services Director at the Post Office®, said: “Post Office Ltd. has a long-standing relationship with National Savings and Investments and we are delighted to continue this historic alliance and act as the major retail channel for NS&I products. This is great news for our customers and sub-postmasters.” ENDS Notes to Editors National Savings and Investments was established in February 2002, having been known as National Savings since 1919. In October 1969, the Post Office Act divided National Savings and the Post Office® and National Savings became a separate government department, responsible to HM Treasury. NS&I and the Post Office have a long-term relationship which dates back to 1861 when the Post Office Savings Bank was established, although the two organisations are now separate.
