Press releaseHERTFORDSHIRE RESIDENTS SCOOP TOP PRIZES IN JANUARY’S PREMIUM BOND PRIZE DRAW16 January 2006Eight lucky Hertfordshire residents enjoyed a prosperous start to the New Year with large wins in this month’s Premium Bond prize draw. Hertfordshire is home to four of the 13 lucky winners who netted a £50,000 Premium Bond prize this month. Amongst them was a lucky man who won the high value prize with a 44-year-old £100 Bond bought in August 1962. The win represented a return of 500 times his original investment. The other three winners also earned healthy returns on their investments which were bought from four to seven years ago. The remaining four Hertfordshire residents won a £25,000 Premium Bond prize, a £10,000 Premium Bond prize and two £5,000 Premium Bond prizes respectively. Over one million prizes worth approximately £73 million were drawn across the UK this month in the Premium Bond prize draw operated by National Savings and Investments (NS&I). Sally Swait, Premium Bond manager at NS&I, said: “These wins are testament that older Bonds of relatively small value do win prizes. In fact, many small value bonds win prizes in our monthly draws. Statistically of course, the more Bonds you own, the better the chance of winning a prize at our Premium Bond prize draws.” In Hertfordshire, more than 523,000 people hold Premium Bonds worth over £786 million. However, 7,100 prizes worth over £408,000 remain unclaimed. There is no time limit on claiming prizes. Customers who own Premium Bonds and think they may have any unclaimed prizes can use the Premium Bond prize checker on the NS&I website at www.nsandi.com – customers simply need to enter their Premium Bond holder’s number. Customers who have lost their Premium Bonds or do not know their holder’s number can use NS&I’s free tracing service. A brochure and form can be downloaded from the NS&I website or requested by calling NS&I on 0845 964 5000. ENDS Notes to Editors Premium Bonds were launched in 1956 and £29 billion is currently invested by more than 23 million people. Each month, NS&I runs a prize draw and awards over one million prizes. In the January 2006 draw, the total prize fund exceeded £73 million. The minimum investment is £100 and the maximum is £30,000 per person.
