KAREN JONES JOINS NATIONAL SAVINGS AND INVESTMENTS AS MARKETING DIRECTOR

Karen Jones has been appointed marketing director of National Savings and Investments (NS&I), and will take up her position Monday 11 April 2005.  Karen will become a member of the NS&I board.

In her role as marketing director, Karen will be in charge of customer offer, product management, customer insight and marketing communications, including direct marketing, print and radio advertising and media relations and PR.

Karen, 46, joins NS&I from BBC UK TV Licensing where she was responsible for strategic planning and marketing. Previously she was e-business marketing director of AXA UK plc, head of customer marketing at Abbey National Retail Bank plc and general manager of marketing at Direct Line group.

She replaces Gill Cattanach who left in January 2005 to join Alliance Trusts in Dundee.

NS&I is one of the UK’s leading savings and investments providers with 26 million customers, annual sales in 2003/04 reaching over £12 billion and has over £68 billion funds invested.  It is an Executive Agency of the Chancellor of the Exchequer with a remit to reduce the cost to the taxpayer of government borrowing now and in the future.

NS&I has a wide variety of sales channels including the telephone, internet, standing order, Post Office®  branches, direct marketing and advertising.  It also sponsors the Classical BRIT Awards and the Classic FM breakfast show.
