RESEARCH SHOWS THAT IMPRESSIONS COUNT ON A FIRST DATE

23 October 2002

Men are three times more likely than women to dip into their savings to impress on a first date, according to a recent survey into Britain's savings habits, commissioned by National Savings and Investments. Overall, 7% of men surveyed said they have used savings to make that first good impression compared to just 2% of women. To prove their commitment, men are twice as likely to use their savings on any romantic night out.

Gill Cattanach, Commercial Director, National Savings and Investments said:

"It's great news that men take first dates so seriously, so much so, that more men than women use their savings to make a right impression.

"National Savings and Investments offers a range of products that would suit the need for both men and women to save for that special occasion."

Pauline Lancaster, General Manager, Dateline added:

"We agree, first impressions are of the utmost importance...the gentlemen surveyed should 'profit' in the knowledge that when it comes to meeting your potential life partner a 'little investment' goes a long way!"
