Working at NS&I
/
Meet our peopleThe following staff provide their personal insight into working at National Savings and Investments. Steve Downey - Organisational Learning
"As NS&I Organisational Learning Manager I am responsible for four key areas that focus on business excellence and people excellence. It is crucial that to fulfil our business strategy we continuously learn and seek to improve our processes, people and culture." Steve joined National Savings and Investments in April 2000, having been within the retail financial services industry for 18 years. Initially he started as Head of Customer Service a role he held for 7 years. There is a common thread between his current and previous roles - both were new roles to the business and needed clear direction and purpose. This shows that NS&I is a pioneering organisation that supports the development of its people. "It is great to work for an organisation where there a big challenges and clear empowerment to act. There is a great deal to do at NS&I and everyone is very busy but in a way that is not pressurised like some organisations" In all we do at NS&I we are mindful of the need to build personal competences through continuous learning and development. There are corporate programmes to support common needs and each individual identifies their learning and development needs and is supported to achieve them. The designated Learning Zones within the office mean that development is not just through courses, there are also interactive learning tools and reading material. And of course there is much development through on the job activities which arise through the day to day business. You never stop learning at NS&I. Back to topAnna D'Arcy - Advertising
Anna, the NS&I Advertising Manager, joined NS&I in April 1995 and has recently returned from Maternity leave. Her key role, as part of the marketing Services team, is to project manage all aspects of NS&I’s advertising campaigns on TV, within the Press and on the Radio. She works closely with the advertising and media agenciesin creating and developing the advertisements, organising the media planning and buying, and analysing the results. She is also responsible for managing the relationship with Classic FM, which links with the sponsorship of the Classical Brits Awards. Anna’s commitment to this relationship was illustrated by her desire to work on the set up of the first ever NS&I sponsored Classical Brits Awards right up to the night of the performance, as she gave birth just a week later! “The people and working culture are one of the main reasons I enjoy life at NS&I. This was perhaps best highlighted during the re-branding of NS&I from National Savings, as everyone took the process personally across the company, it was not just considered to be a Marketing issue.”
Chris Eyles - Business Change
Since joining NS&I in June 1983, Chris has worked in a variety of roles across the company, and is currently the Business Change Manager. He is responsible for all aspects of change management throughout the business, and with our partners, Siemens Business Services. These changes can range from major projects which effect many areas of the business, such as Evidence of Identity, to small, but nonetheless important changes such as changing the signatures on letters. "There has been a tremendous amount of change at NS&I over my career lifetime. The past five years have been particularly exciting as we have grown - a great time to be here." “I also really enjoy the range of activities within NS&I, including regular football and badminton matches. Furthermore, the social events always have such a high buy in, and things like Quiz nights are very popular.” |
